Getting around Boracay
Getting around Boracay
There are quite a few ways to get around the island of Boracay. The cheapest and best way is to just walk. Boracay is only 9km long and 1km wide at the center. The White Beach is only 4km long. Kick off those shoes (which you probably should have left behind anyway) and enjoy the scenery and soak up the island's atmosphere.
You can also rent bicycles. Since this is a beach community, metal parts do not last very long so choose well. Quality varies greatly, and good quality is sometimes hard to find. Expect to pay about Php 100 per day for a decent bike, Php 75 per day for a mediocre bike.
Motorbikes are another option. These are allowed only along the main road and definitely not along the beach. The road conditions tend to be a bit gravelly, so this is probably an option best reserved for the experienced or daring. Road rash and swimsuits don't often match.
Tricycles are a popular way of getting around. Unfortunately prices tend to vary depending on the amount of sun your skin has seen. The fare of the tricycle between D'Mall and the Cagban port, Tambisaan port, or Yapak is Php 20 per person.
The usual tricycle price for locals is Php 7 if the trip is on level ground and Php 12 if you go uphill, for example from D'Mall to Mandala Spa. Avoid the tricycle station at D'Mall which charges Php 40 per tricycle, without regard for the number of passengers. It's best to walk 5-10 meters away and try to catch one that already has passengers. Before getting on, confirm the price with the driver. Say that you want the "individual" fare and try to look like you've been on the island longer than 3 hours.
